Yamanobe-no-Michi is recognized as one of Japan’s oldest recorded trails, winding along the foot of the mountains in the eastern Nara Basin.
While the traditional route runs from Sakurai to Tenri, this is not a preserved history museum frozen in time.
The path takes you through rice fields, quiet villages, and narrow alleys. You will pass ancient shrines and traditional homes, right alongside farmers’ gardens and unattended fruit stands.
Unlike crowded tourist destinations, life here moves at a calm, open pace. Walking this trail naturally puts you at ease, making it feel completely natural to smile and say “Hello” to people you pass.
Paved roads, soft dirt paths, and gentle mountain trails weave together, seamlessly connecting ancient scenery with local daily life.
Put on your shoes, start walking, pause when you like, and say “Hi!” to a friendly face. This is a living trail where you can enjoy the simple freedom of moving at your own pace.
